early rush to secure down rally entries...
18 May 2018
With almost a half of our maximum number received in the first twenty minutes after entries opened, and a steady stream resulting in 90 being received in the first 48 hours, it seems that the Carryduff Forklift Down Rally has captured peoples interest early on. So let's talk stages!
Clerk of the Course, Andy Gilmore commented: "Running out of the Eikon Centre on the outskirts of Lisburn City, we had several options for what direction to take this event. We spent several weeks driving some of the most stunning roads County Down has to offer and weighing up the possibilities."
"We have to take a lot of things into consideration; the number of residents, surrounding infrastructure and milage involved, as well as the the quality of road surface and the challenge of the terrain, all of which we think will add to the enjoyment of the competing crews. We hope we have come up with a rally that has a bit of everything, a modern classic."
Gavin Campbell, who has spent a considerable amount of time checking the stages from a safety point of view added; “I’m really excited about the stages. We have three fantastic closed road stages as well as an accessible spectator special stage. Since planning started in the middle of last year we have been working on getting the best out of County Down’s rolling drumlin countryside and our two all-new stages feature a real driver’s challenge, mixing classic Irish lanes with some lovely flowing B-road sections!"
"We have paid special attention to providing safe, accessible viewing for spectators, not only out on the closed road stages but also at the heart of the event in the Eikon Exhibition Centre. The spectator special stage in the showgrounds has good viewing options for families and great disabled access. All this in a compact route that offers competitors a total of 12 high quality competitive stages in 8 hours, and within 15 miles of Rally HQ!”
It certainly sounds like a great day out. We hope you'll agree!
