notable entries to date...
27 May 2018
Although entries will remain open for another few weeks, we have already started our reserve list so we asked Deputy Clerk of the Course, Brian Crawford to cast his eye over the entry's received so far and tell us who's standing out for him.
"Firstly, I want to thank the crews who have entered so far. We did our best to come up with a format that would please competitors and its quite satisfying as we watch the entries coming in to think we've got something right here.
"We have our local crews here in Northern Ireland and Ireland but we also have competitors travelling from England, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales. There are competitors coming from Jersey and France; think about that, that's not just jumping on one ferry with a van and trailer. That takes a fair amount of effort and preparation.
"From close to home we've got Amy Cox and Caron McCormick who set a blistering pace on the Tour of the Sperrins, Desi Henry and Liam Moynihan who won that rally are in there too. Kenny McKinstry and young William Creighton, as well as Fintan McGrady, a long time member and supporter of Ballynahinch and District Motor Club, it really is a quality entry.
"Amongst the guys travelling over we've got the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship top three of Jason Pritchard, Damian Cole and Melvyn Evans, as well as Melvyn's son Meirion. British Rally Championship contender David Bogie is also making the trip.
"Allan Mackay is bringing the Anglia over and I'm sure he's looking forward to the party on Saturday night. Incidentally, Allan's first trip to a rally I was involved with would have been well over 20 years ago so we're very grateful for his continued support.
"Another notable entry is Scottish Toyota Forklift dealer, Barry Groundwater and his navigator Neil Shanks. He'll be bringing Carryduff Forklift a bit of competition both on and off the stages, let's hope he doesn't sell any while he's over!
"We obviously hoped for a top quality entry, but it really has surprised us, we didn't ever expect this. It has totally surpassed our expectations."
